TIMELESS

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die…” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

(Reading Time: 8 minutes and 30 seconds )

As believers we love saying prayers that sound good. One of them is “Lord, not my will but Your will be done in my life.” That was definitely one prayer point I recited every single time during my days as a lukewarm Christian. I said Lord let Your will be done, but what I truly meant was “Lord, bless me, advance me, make me great. But please, do it in a way that is convenient with the schedule I have set out for my life, no delays please.” Looking back at it, I just laugh. I always told God to let His will be done in my life, but I always wanted Him to do everything at my convenience. Not according to His timing, but according to the perfect schedule I had planned for my life. That my friends, is not how God works.

One thing about the God we serve is that He is the creator of all things. He made heaven and earth and everything in it. The Omniscient God, an all-knowing God. He knows the beginning, the middle and the end of all things. Meaning that even before you were brought into this earth God knew your birthday, birthplace, parents, relationships, hardships, afflictions, purpose, and calling. “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who makes all things,Who stretches out the heavens all alone Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself” (Isaiah 44:24). Not only does God know your life, but He knows about the earth and everything in it. He knows the time of creation the same way that He knows the date of expiration. Yup! I said the date of expiration, because nothing on this earth is meant to last for eternity, “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it” (1 John 2:17). God created time, He placed us in time, but He does not dwell in time. Trust and believe that God has called you for such a time as this!!

Our Guider

About two weeks ago, I touched upon the importance of knowing who God is in order to know who you are as a person. The same goes for knowing your purpose and calling. You must know who God is in order to know why you are here on earth at this very moment. Not only do you need to know God but you need to have an intimate relationship with the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. John 14:25-26 mentions the role of the Holy Spirit; it says,

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

This section of the Bible introduces the Holy Spirit as our comforter, the Spirit of truth, our advocate, our helper, and our guider. Those who know their God and have received the Holy Spirit are aware of His existence. However, the more I learn and read about the Holy Spirit the more I realize that out of the trinity He is the most ignored and the most neglected. Before I truly knew about the Holy Spirit I would think of Him as a ghost that just hovered around the earth doing His thing here and there. I knew He was part of the Holy Trinity, but I never knew His importance in my life.  God the Father and God the Son are seated in heaven, but God the Holy Spirit is here with us, and within us on earth every single day! The Holy Spirit was literally sent to us to help us fulfill our God given purpose here on earth.

In the book You are Anointed for This! Judy Jacobs says, “The Holy Spirit is there as the keeper of the anointing to protect, remind, convict, and draw you into Jesus and into greater anointing in Him.” Therefore, by that information we know that we have a purpose in the kingdom of God here on earth, and the Holy Spirit is the keeper of that purpose and that anointing. The Holy Spirit guides and directs us into God’s plan for our life. “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9) We may have a plan in our heart, but it is God that directs all of our steps. We are not our own gods, we may plan but every plan we make must always be in accordance to God’s will for our lives. The only way to know God’s will for your life is to know Him.

A Time for Everything

One thing about human beings is that we believe we have more control than we truly do. We have our daily planners, 5 step processes, 10 year plans, retirement plans and forget the fact that in this walk called life we do not really have that much control. There are four ideal stages that most if not every believer should go through in life. These four stages are the learning stage, the execution stage, the legacy stage and the stage of rest (teaching by Apostle Joshua Selman and Pastor Dominic Osei). The Learning Stage (0-25 years old) is the stage in your life when you are making investments in your life spiritually, academically, financially, etc. In this stage of your life it is okay to make mistakes because you are in your learning stage. The second stage, the Execution Stage (25-50 years old) is the stage of your life you are putting to work all that you have learned. Your investments are being manifested and you are beginning to see their fruits. Stage three, the Legacy Stage (50+) is the stage of your life when you should’ve already maximized your impact in the kingdom of God. You have served your generation and you are now pouring out into the next generation by mentoring people, writing books, etc. The last stage, the Stage of Rest, is the stage in your life that you can now rest and boast in the Lord knowing that you have served your generation and that you have indeed done well in the sight of the Lord! Although these stages may seem vague, they give us a general outline of how our lives should go as we wholeheartedly obey and follow the commands of God in our lives. If the job of the Holy Spirit is to guide us and to draw us into greater anointing in Him, His role in guiding us through these four stages is crucial! That is why the Bible emphasizes knowing God in the days of our youth. “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them.”” (Ecclesiastes 12:1) Get to know who God as you are still young so He will be able to guide you into living an effective life and maximizing your time here on earth.

The Time is Now!

We think we are timeless, in total control of our own life. If we cannot control time, we cannot control our lives! I am here to tell you that there is a time for everything, a time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:2). It is cute to say “I will get serious about my relationship with God by the time I’m older,” but God doesn’t owe you another month let alone 10 years. You are of use now! God wants to use you now! God can use you at literally any age! But how can God use you if you have not been poured into? How can you walk in your destiny if you don’t even know why you are here on earth in the year 2020 in the midst of all this chaos? Do not live your life chasing after your own desires, temporary satisfactions, and worldly treasures. Do not live your life like the rich fool causing God to ask you, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ (Luke 12:20) Your life is required right now, do not live thinking that God owes you 10 more years! Do not forget the God of your call! Start saying yes to God and trust that He will begin placing provisions on your way to your purpose!

God is a God of many chances, but there will be a day when it is too late. God is always checking to see if you are bearing good fruits “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23). Do not go around bearing the works of the flesh Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like;” (Galatians 5:19-22) thinking God is happy just because you are advancing according to worldly standards. Not every step forward on earth is a step forward in the kingdom of God. The only way we can bear good fruit is by abiding in Him, having a relationship with Him, and spending time in the secret place!!! We are the branches and He is the vine, He supports us we do not support Him. “But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.” (Romans 11:18). Every branch that does not bear fruit is cut off! Do not use Him being a merciful God as a way to justify your procrastination. A day will come when God is giving you your last chance and you won’t even be aware.

Giving God the space to use you is a choice, saying yes to God is a choice. One thing about God is that He will keep moving with or without you. If you do not say yes He will find the next person that is willing to say yes. You won’t even know He gave someone your calling, until you start seeing the woman you were meant to be in SOMEONE ELSE! I do not know about you all but I would not be too happy seeing the woman that God called me to be in someone else. We have free will, but one day we will have to account for what decisions we made with that free will.

Closing Question

God wants to use us, all of us, for the whole of our lives. Not only when we reach the age of 30, not when we are financially settled, not when we have our lives in order, but God wants to use you the whole of your life! David was anointed to fight and kill Goliath at the age of 15, Mary was called to be the mother of Jesus as a teenager, Samuel was 11 when he heard the voice of the Lord, John the Baptist was called to be a great prophet even before He was born! Moses was called by God at the age of 80, Abraham was called to be the father of many nations at the age of 99, his wife Sarah was 91 when she gave birth to the son God had promised them! You never know when God is going to call you, but what you can do is decide to say yes to God to the God of your calling every step of the way. Get to a point where you can truthfully go to God in prayer and tell Him, “not my will but Your will be done” and submit to Him with all your heart! But do not forget you cannot submit to God if you do not know Him!

So I just want to leave you all with one question: With the path you’re going on do you think that if God was to come today that He will be pleased with you? Do you think that He will look at you and tell you my daughter (or my son), well done? If not, it is time to sit down with the Holy Spirit and reevaluate your life.
